⚔️ Abrège vs Message Summaries
Meta AI recaps your unread messages. Abrège summarises the voice note you choose.
Meta has started rolling out Message Summaries: Meta AI recaps the unread messages in a conversation, to catch up on a thread without reading it all. It's useful, but it's not the same job as Abrège, which summarises a specific voice note you forward it, with the action to take.
Where Message Summaries (Meta AI) is a good choice
To be fair: to catch up on a group that blew up while you slept, Message Summaries is well designed. It's free, built into WhatsApp, with nothing to install, and Meta backs it with confidential-processing technology ("Private Processing") built so that no one, not even Meta, reads the content. If your need is a broad recap of a thread's unread messages, the native feature does the job.
Where Abrège changes the game
The difference comes down to scope. Message Summaries recaps a thread of unread messages, not a particular voice note: you don't choose what it processes, and it aims at text more than audio. Abrège does the opposite: you forward a specific voice note, and you get the gist rephrased plus the dates, prices and questions to deal with. Two things also matter on availability: Meta's feature arrived first in the United States and in English, with a gradual rollout by country and language, whereas Abrège works today, on Android as well as iPhone.

- Because they serve different needs. Meta AI recaps a thread of unread messages. Abrège summarises a chosen voice note and pulls out the dates, prices and questions to deal with. The two can coexist: the native one to catch up on a group, Abrège for a specific voice note that matters.
- The audio file is transcribed via OpenAI's API (Whisper) then deleted from our servers with no copy kept, hosted in Europe. Meta, for its part, highlights confidential processing ("Private Processing") for its summaries. Both take the topic seriously, with different approaches.
